We are either all victims, or at least we all know people who are victims of insomnia or sleep disorders such as recurring nightmares, atypical sleep schedules, sleepiness, etc. Solutions are available, but you have to know where to look!

As part of World Sleep Day earlier this year, HALEO, North America's first provider of virtual sleep programs, created a webinar to raise awareness of the benefits of getting a good night's sleep and the dangers of sleep deprivation. You can access the free webinar at any time:

Sleep topics covered

The HALEO webinar covers a number of topics that are essential to understand and improve the quality of your sleep:

  1. Sleep deprivation vs insomnia: Sleep deprivation and insomnia are often lumped together, but they are fundamentally different. While sleep deprivation is generally linked to a lifestyle choice or external obligations, insomnia is a sleep disorder where you have persistent difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, even when you have the opportunity - or desire - to sleep.

  2. Sleepiness and fatigue: Sleepiness is an irresistible urge to sleep during the day, while fatigue is a general feeling of exhaustion without necessarily feeling the need to sleep.

  3. The risks associated with lack of sleep: Insufficient sleep can have serious impacts on health, including increased risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, depression and even certain cancers.

  4. Sleep pressure and circadian rhythms: Sleep pressure refers to the increasing need to sleep as the day progresses. Our internal biological clock that regulates sleep and wake cycles is vital in maintaining good sleep hygiene.

  5. Treatments for insomnia and nightmares: Insomnia and nightmares can seriously disturb your rest. HALEO looks at current treatments, including behavioural and cognitive therapies, pharmacological interventions and relaxation techniques, to help you get back to a peaceful night's sleep.

HALEO is pleased to count on the expertise of Maude Bouchard, PhD, neuropsychologist and Director of Research and Development at HALEO, to lead this webinar. She guides participants through the latest findings and proven strategies to help them improve their sleep.
