Between the Holiday season and the arrival of spring, there’s that little lull around February and March. The days are slowly getting longer, but the lack of natural light is still very present. Winter drags on, motivation dips, and a lingering fatigue starts to settle in. You know that feeling?
It’s no coincidence. At this time of year, our bodies are dealing with reduced sunlight, disrupted routines and a healthy dose of “winter burnout.” That’s exactly why it becomes more important than ever to prioritise sleep. Getting enough rest doesn’t just help restore energy, it also supports both physical and mental health, at a time when our bodies and minds truly need it.
As part of World Sleep Day, whose theme this year is Sleep Better, Live Better, now is the perfect time to take a step back and check in on our sleep habits.
No need to overhaul your entire routine. Small changes can already make a big difference.
As soon as you wake up, open the curtains and expose yourself to natural light, even for a few minutes. A short walk outside — even on cloudy days — helps reset your internal clock and boost energy levels.
Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day (yes, even on weekends!) helps your body better recognise when it’s time to sleep, and time to wake up.
You don’t need intense workouts. A walk, yoga, or a few stretches are enough to stimulate energy and improve sleep quality.
Nutritious meals, less sugar, and good hydration help prevent energy crashes. And when it comes to coffee: enjoy it in the morning rather than later in the day (as a rule of thumb, avoid caffeine after 2 p.m.).
In the evening, slow things down: dim the lights, put screens away, and keep your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet. Small details that make a big difference.
To mark World Sleep Day, our partner HALEO is offering a free webinar on Tuesday, March 10 at noon, titled : Everything you need to know about sleep.
